Ms. Alice Kinnian is a teacher at the Beekman College
Center for Retarded Adults, which is the place where Charlie studies. She is also
Charlie Gordon's teacher and, eventually, she will become in Charlie's first and only
love interest. Alice is particularly interested in Charlie because he is her best
student. He is also her favorite because of the fact that he is one of the few students
who demonstrated a genuine hunger for learning.

Alice is
the prime nurturer in Charlie's life. She is the one who suggested Charlie as the
participant for Professor Nemur's and Dr. Strauss's experiment. She is also a constant
companion of Charlie's during the experiment and treated him respectfully. Even after
Charlie's IQ drops for good it is Alice who is there to comfort and protect
him.
