Describe the author's purpose for writing Lies My Teacher Told Me.

The author's purpose in writing this book was to correct
what he sees as errors in the way history is presented in textbooks and taught in
history classes.

Loewen argues that history is made into a
dull and mindless course of study by the textbooks that are used.  These books make it
sound as if history is something that everyone agrees about.  They take the controversy
and the conflict out of history and present it as a story of how and why America is so
great.  Loewen argues that history classes would be more interesting and more accurate
if they honestly portrayed the bad parts of American history and the debates between
scholars.

Loewen hopes, through his book, to change the way
history is taught and written so as to make it more interesting to students and more
accurate.,
