How is bravery introduced in Chapter 1 of To Kill a Mockingbird?

EXAMPLES OF BRAVERY IN CHAPTER 1
OF
TO KILL A
MOCKINGBIRD

  • Jem's overcomes his
broken elbow and goes on to play football. "He couldn't have cared less as long as he
    could punt and pass."

  • Simon Finch establishes a homestead
    in the wilds of Alabama.

  • The primary act of bravery comes
when Jem accepts Dill's dare, after thinking about it for three days, to run up and
touch the side of the Radley house. Dill would give Jem his copy of The Grey
    Ghost
if Jem accepted the challenge. Jem still wasn't sure about taking the
dare until Scout "sneered at him."

Jem threw open the gate and sped to the side
of the       house, slapped it with his palm and ran back to us, not waiting to see if
his foray was successful. Dill and I followed on his
heels.
