What are some reasons why many would not go green?

There are many possible reasons for this.  Among them
are:

  • Political reasons.  Among many American
conservatives, for example, it is widely believed that going green is something that
only liberals do.  To not go green can be something of a statement of one's conserative
    beliefs.

  • Apathy.  Many people simply do not care enough
to go green.  To such people, the costs of going green in terms of extra effort or
changes to their way of life are too high.  They are not motivated and so do not want to
    bear these costs.

  • Lack of belief.  This is related to the
previous reason.  Many people believe that there is no need to go green.  This is
particularly true of the idea that we need to reduce emissions in order to prevent
global warming.  People who do not believe that human action leads to climate change
will not see any reason to go green.
