What are common interest friends? How are common interest friends a classification of friends?

Common interest friends are people with whom you share
hobbies, interests, or passions. You can go on outings or trips with common interest
friends. The people who you interact with on a weekly basis at your local chess club are
common interest friends. This is a unique classification of friendship because it
doesn't connote a deep emotional connection. You may not see these friends very often
and they may know little of you outside of your shared interest. Common interest friends
are not necessarily going to be there for you in a time of great need. Some people refer
to common interest friends as "friendly acquaintances" to emphasize the amicable but
superficial nature of the relationship.
