thinking that you are asking about the types of buds a plant can produce. In dicot
plants,there are several different types of buds, all of which can result in new growth.
Apical buds form at the very tip of a stem or shoot. They can create either the next
year's shoot growth (resulting in a taller plant), flowers, or both. Axillary buds are
found along the sides of a stem, in the axillae, which are the joints where each leaf
connects to the stem. They also can result in flowers and/or the growth of a new branch,
which makes the plant bushier or wider instead of
taller.
Some plants can also develop epicormic buds. These
are buds that are hidden beneath the bark, and they generally remain dormant unless the
plants hormone status changes. For example, is the top of a tree is cut or broken off,
epicormic buds may activate and provide new branches to replace the lost
growth.
