The little prince in the story The Little Prince
is searching. He doesn't completely understand what he is searching for, so
he is open to learning from everyone and everything he encounters. The main problem in
the story is his search for understanding - understanding of relationships, of the
reasons why people act as they do, of how to learn to love and to trust and to care for
the important parts of our lives. As he has brief encounters with many different minor
characters through the book, he sees different aspects of life and makes observations
about how to relate and react to those situations. In that learning process, the little
prince gains the knowledge he was seeking. As the fox confirms to him at the end of the
story, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is
invisible to the eye." The solution is love.
