What was the main cause of the Latin American wars of independence?history

The major cause of the Latin American wars of independence
was the desire of the "criollos" to have a share of power in their
societies.

In the societies of the Latin colonies, the only
true elites were "peninsulares."  Peninsulares were Spanish people who were actually
born in Spain and sent to the colonies to be government or church officials.  They had
essentially all the power in their colonies.

The "criollos"
were people who were of pure Spanish descent but who had been born in the colonies. 
They were angry at the fact that they were excluded from power when their ancestry was
just as "good" as that of the peninsulares.  The anger that these criollos felt over
their exclusion from power was the main cause of revolutions in Latin
America.
