What is role of Headmaster Florian in the story? To Sir, with Love by E. R. Braithwaite

Headmaster of Greenslade Secondary School, Headmaster Alex
Florian is a progressive administrator who sees his position with the faculty as more
lateral than hierarchical.  Regarding his attitude toward and treatment of the students,
he is much like Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird:  physically
non-punitive, informal, and warm.  Every Friday, he has students write in journals about
the weekly occurrences and their feelings.  He uses these writings as a theraupetic
exercise for the students as well as for keeping the teachers aware of students'
concerns.  Much like a father to the students, he drops into classrooms and participates
in Mr. Braithwaite's discussions.  Headmaster Florian allows the students a period
around lunchtime in which they can play their music and dance, and is sympathetic to
their needs and disadvantages.

Clearly, Headmaster Florian
sets the tone for Greenslade School.  His office is open to students and faculty alike.
His genuiness and sincere interest in the success of the students, along with his
fatherly advice propels the teachers at his school to encourage and sympathize with
their students.
