The game "Rigamarole", as described in Little
Women, is one children have played (and not known this name for) for
generations. Basically, to play the game one begins a story. Right before something
dramatic is to happen, the speaker stops and passes the story onto the next person, and
so on. The story, therefore, becomes the creation of the group as a collective
whole.
The reason that this is a good game to use when
people are getting to know each other is that it can be used as an ice breaker. People
tend to open up a little more when they are not being asked the typical questions which
could cause some anxious moments. By taking focus off of the individual, and placing it
on the story at hand, people tend to forget that they are in an unfamiliar environment
or surrounded by unfamiliar people.
