How do you clean airbag residue off of fine jewelry after an automobile accident?

The type of cleaning that is necessary and acceptable
depends on the type of jewelry.  If it is costume jewelry (such as nickle or other
inexpensive metals), you will want to stick with soap and water.  If it is silver, you
can try a good silver polish.  For gold, there is a different type of polish.  Most
stores have these types of polishes in the cleaning isle or near the jewelry counter.
Jewelry that contains precious or semi-precious stones will require greater care.  Some
stones, like sapphires, are too soft to clean with polishes or the type of jewelry
cleaner that asks you to soak the item in a tray of chemicals.  For home remedies, you
can try vinegar, mix water and baking soda to make a paste polish, or tooth paste.
Again, be extra careful if you are cleaning jewelry that contains stones.  The hardest
part to clean will be under the stones or in any gaps between links.  I found the most
helpful thing was to use a clean tooth brush with whatever cleaning agent you
chose.
